When it opens to patients in September 2021, UH Seidman Cancer Center at UH Avon Health Center will ensure that residents of Lorain County have access to the most comprehensive and patient-centered cancer services, close to home. UH Seidman Cancer Center is part of the National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Case Comprehensive Cancer Center at Case Western Reserve University, one of just 51 comprehensive cancer centers in the country.

The $31 million, 35,000 square-foot, two-floor facility will offer both radiation oncology and medical oncology. Patients who receive care there will benefit from services at the adjacent UH Avon Health Center, including diagnostic imaging (MRI, CT scan, ultrasound, digital mammography, and X-ray), plus laboratory services, urgent care, and a medically based fitness center.

In addition to medical and radiation oncology services, patients will have access to a vast array of clinical trials, as well as social work, financial counseling, and a myriad of other supportive services.

This satellite hospital brings cancer care closer to the population so it is easier for patients to access. THP brought linear accelerator experience to the project, helping the design team and owner understand the information required from the equipment supplier to complete the design. We were able to issue documents for pricing prior to having the final design requirements from the machine supplier, due to institutional knowledge of required wall and floor thickness. Due to a fast-track design process, our knowledge enabled the project to keep going while the owner was securing a contract with the equipment supplier.
